This morning we returned to our "summer banding station" in the Albufera . We had a great time despite the number of networks assembled, but still dropped a little surprise.
highlight was catching a bluethroat (Luscinia svecica ssp. Cyanecula , Bluetrhoat) with German forwards (Radolfzell Germania).
banding migratory birds when you know that many of them have come from afar, but do not know exactly where. That is why I like it when you are at least a reference, as in this case. And you find amazing things.
I was quite pleased to have led for the first time from Valencia to Santander (about seven hundred kilometers), but is that assuming that this bird comes from southern Germany, has made at least twice, and does not weigh one thousandth of the car, had to face temporary and not working on gasoline. A feat worthy of praise ... And still are coming from further away!
On the other hand, the day today, we caught the first Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus , Sedge warbler) of season. And you know, data for the rest of the day, a visitilla to our blog
As another remarkable thing we have noticed a strong step Swallows of all species: Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica , Barn swallow) and dáuricas ( Cecropis daurica , Red-rumped swallow) and martins (Delichon urbicum , House martin), martin (Riparia riparia , Sand Martin) and rockers ( Ptyonoprogne rupestris, Crag Martin).
And a little more left to tell me that is not strictly about banding. Just leave you here an interesting quote I came Toni Mulet and I forgot to put it (sorry, Tom):
Quote merganser (Mergus serrator) at l'Albufera de Valencia
"On Wednesday March 3 Juan Antonio Gómez , Luis Soto and Toni Mulet visited the Estany de Pujol in search of Arctic Loon and Red-necked grebe observed until this weekend.
The grebe continues to feed in the area next to the loons and azulones but no sign of the Arctic loon .
While
sweep the lake in search of surprising the presence of another great diver duck soon identified as a male merganser (Mergus serrator). After diving a few times takes off towards the sea revealing the large white wing patch up with two black lines of sight. "
